Volvo Trucks of North America (VTNA) has announced delivery of
five US2010 compliant heavy-duty trucks for customer field trials.
The VN trucks, delivered to Talon Logistics, are equipped with a
combined EGR and SCR system along with a particlulate filter. Volvo
will continue introducing 2010 model vehicles for customer testing
and plans to increase the number in 2008.
This news follows Cummins' decision to pursue an EGR-only solution
for US2010. With Volvo and Detroit Diesel opting for SCR,
Caterpillar is left as the only Class-8 engine manufacturer with an
undeclared 2010 emissions strategy. It is thought that Caterpillar
will attempt follow Cummins' example and build on its 2007 ACERT
cooled EGR technology. Caterpillar has said that if possible it
will avoid using SCR and will continue to develop alternative
technologies until the last possible moment.
