Euro V trucks equipped with NOx control will be eligible for the
UK Department of Transport's reduced pollution certificate (RPC)
from 1 October 2007. The RPC will discount the vehicle excise duty
by up to £500 (€735) depending on weight and axles. The RPC will
expire when Euro V legislation is fully implemented in October
2009.
The Government's decision to delay the RPC until the introduction
of NOx control received widespread condemnation from the UK road
haulage industry, but reflects concerns about the NOx reduction
performance of existing Euro IV & V systems.
