Volvo Trucks North America has become the first OEM to announce that new trucks built to meet US EPA 2010 emissions limits will carry an additional surcharge. Customers will have to pay $9,600 from January 2010 to cover the additional costs involved in installing SCR technology and on-board diagnostics (OBD) systems that are required by the 2010 regulation. The surcharge will apply to all new trucks built with Volvo D11, D13 and D16 engines, as well as those with the Cummins ISX.
