No Euro IV vehicles on India's roads

The success of the implementation of India's Bharat Stage IV emission legislation (Euro IV equivalent) has been called into question by claims that compliant trucks or buses will not be available until July 2010.

The new regulations came into force on 1 April 2010, as the country's oil sector scrambled to upgrade its network to supply sufficient quality diesel fuel.

S P Singh, a spokesperson for theIndian Federation of Transportation Research and Training, said: "To date not a single truck or bus has been made available at retail dealers of the commercial vehicle manufacturers. Even authorized commercial vehicle dealers in cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon don't have any price list, technical details and inventory relating to goods carriages/trucks and buses complying with Euro-IV emission norms, and the implementation of Euro-IV for heavy-duty trucks and buses will be done from July 2010 only."
