Chinese vehicle manufacturer Beiqi Foton Motor has announced
plans to invest an additional ¥680m in its joint venture with
Cummins over the next two years to develop China Phase V and VI
(Euro V and VI equivalent) vehicles as it starts production on
China Phase IV models.
The joint venture will begin production of engines for use in
light-duty trucks on 10 June, according to a company spokesperson,
producing ISF2.8 and ISF3.8 engines compliant with China Phase IV
emissions regulations.
Tim Solso, Cummins' chairman and chief executive officer, said:
"The opening of the joint venture marks Cummins' official entry
into China's booming light-duty diesel market. By combining our
proven technology with a strong local partner, which offers a
significant OEM base for our products, Cummins is poised to
significantly expand its portfolio of engine products in the
important chinese market."
Called Foton Cummins Engine Company the joint venture will use
technology licensed from Cummins' US operation.
