Swedish truck maker Volvo is investing in a plant capable of
manufacturing Euro IV, V and VI equivalent trucks through its joint
venture with Indian vehicle manufacturer Eicher.
The plant will be based at Eicher base in Pithampur, central
India, and have an annual capacity of 100,000 engine units,
according to local media sources. Nearly half of its output will be
used for Volvo's markets outside of India.
Volvo-Eicher announced that the joint venture would start
producing buses in the second half of 2010, with other heavy-duty
vehicles to follow later in the year.
