The Vietnam News Agency has reported that as of 2017, all of Vietnam's newly manufactured or imported motor vehicles will be required to conform to stricter emission control standards. The standards will be introduced for both light and heavy-duty vehicles.
Currently adhering to Euro II standards, automobile legislation will be tightened to Euro IV, with Euro V to be introduced in 2022. In preparation for the implementations, The Ministry of Science and Technology will implement fuel standards in 2016.
General Director of the Vietnam Register Department, Trinh Ngoc Giao said: "We believe in the context of Vietnam, only after 2017 will automakers and petroleum companies be ready to meet the high emission standard".
