The implementation of China IV (Euro IV equivalent) emissions legislation, originally planned for January 2012, has been postponed until 1 July, 2013, according to the Ministry of Environmental Protection.
The delay has been caused be the scarce availability of low-sulphur diesel, which is necessary for trucks to achieve emissions reductions.
Juliane Läng, emission and environment analyst at Integer Research, said: "It was originally agreed that 350 ppm sulphur diesel should be made available nationwide in 2010. However, implementation of low-sulphur fuel was delayed until summer 2011. Six months later, 350ppm is still not available nationwide."
China IV was tabled originally for January 2010 for new vehicle types and one year later, in January 2011, for all vehicles.
