The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) is due to adopt new, more stringent emissions standards for heavy-duty vehicle engines. On the 19th of January, the Working Party on Pollution and Energy provisionally approved an amendment of Regulation No 49, which addresses emissions requirements.
A proposal will be submitted to the June 2012 World Forum and the standards will be implemented gradually from the first quarter of 2013.
The new standards address pollution from nitrogen oxide (NOx), as well as hydrocarbons, non-methane hydrocarbons, methane and particulate matter.
The modification is intended to bring requirements in line with Euro VI Legislation, which also comes into force in January 2013.
