Tennant to supply urea solution in Australia

by Alistair Wallace on 01/01/2006, 4:16 PM

Australian metals, mineral and fertilizer supplier, Tennant Ltd, has announced it is moving into the market for SCR urea solution and has launched sales and supply of AdBlue in Australia under the NONOX name.

NONOX Manager of New Business Development, Stig Uhlen, stresses the company is at the stage of testing the Australian market. The company has worked with the Trucking Industry Council and truck manufacturers to develop strategies for distributing the urea solution.

Tennant is making an early foray into a market its European counterparts are yet to evaluate fully. The Australian emissions laws which equate to Euro 4 and 5 will not come into force until 2007/8 and 2010/11 respectively. The ADR 80/01 emissions limits, similar to Euro 4, can be met by EGR systems and US and Japanese truck manufacturers are thought likely to fit this
technology in the vehicles they supply in Australia.

European truck manufacturers are greater proponents of SCR. However, the major European AdBlue producers are unlikely to enter the Australian market until truck OEM strategies for this market are clearer. Since SCR technology and demand for urea solution may not increase substantially until ADR 80/02 (Euro 5 equivalent) comes into force in 2010/11, most AdBlue producers have time to evaluate their position and much will depend on
availability of high grade of urea to make the solution.
