Truck industry prefers SCR

by Laura Cross on 16/07/2009, 1:55 PM

A national research study has shown that the majority of class 8 heavy duty truck users continue to favour SCR (Selective Catalyst Reduction) for their engine purchase. Only 31.2% were likely to consider choosing the alternative technology - increased EGR, to comply with the new EPA 2010 diesel emissions standards that take effect in the US next year. The Quixote Group which led the survey added that a "continued shift toward SCR during the second half of the year" was expected in line with announcements from many truck and engine manufacturers that SCR will be the technology of choice in the run up to the 2010 emissions standards. Manufacturers opting for SCR include Daimler Trucks North America and Volvo Trucks North America, as well as passenger vehicle manufacturers Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen among others.
